“Remember that the happiest people are not those getting more, but those giving more.”
– H. Jackson Brown Jr.
Hey ShopUnder Fans!
ICYMI, December is well underway, and you know what the means!
It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!
We’ve all heard that line before. For most of us, we’ve heard this seasonal song in the movies, or on the radio, or most likely blaring through a department store’s speakers. And while it wouldn’t be wrong to assume that the song is about Christmas, there are actually lots of different holidays going on in December, which, if you think about it, makes the season much more wonderful than if it was just Christmas!
It’s that time of year again! That’s right, on Friday, December 7th, Saturday, December 8th, and Sunday, December 9th, ShopUnder is having its epic Winter Warehouse Sale, and this is something that you simply cannot afford to miss out on. Also, if you read all the way to the end of this blog post, you’ll discover a little-hidden surprise that we’ll have in store for all our patrons who will come pay us a visit during the sale.
“Whoever said that money can’t buy happiness simply didn’t know where to go shopping.” – Bo Derek
It’s just about that time of year again. The busiest of shopping days, Black Friday, shall soon be upon us, and so will be plenty of opportunities to make amazing savings! Seriously though, many wait all year to take advantage of this once a year sale, and if you’ve ever seen news coverage of the door-crashing stampedes of eager consumers, you know that people take Black Friday sales quite seriously, and so does ShopUnder as a matter of fact. So be sure to visit our site on Black Friday this year, Friday, November 23, 2018.
Each year, the Anna Wintour-helmed Met Gala celebration takes over New York City and the night is usually full of shocks and surprises.
But I’m not telling you something you don’t already know … you must have seen celebrity photos from this giant event plastered all over social media.
“Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.” Is this year’s theme, which will feature couture pieces from fashion powerhouses like Versace and Dolce & Gabbana – as well as 41 pieces of ecclesiastical dress straight from the Vatican.
Wintour, the famous director of Vogue magazine, is more than clever. She understands that today to make a buzz, it must shock and awe the community!
That’s why this year, we do not laugh with the imposed theme. Beware of those who do not understand it well. The principle? Respect the theme.
Now onto the five most quirky outfits of the Met Gala 2018:
That Rihanna reign just won’t let up.
An up-close look at the stunning Rihanna wearing a custom made Artisanal outfit by John Galliano. The entire look itself was designed by Margiela. Each piece has been realised in an elaborate Seafoam jacquard, which has been entirely embellished with a series of pearls and “Bijoux” that outline the original and intricate motif of the fabric sewn in silver thread. Pope Francis is going to ask for this outfit soon…
”Hey it’s a low key night don’t be extra”
The pop princess Katy Perry paired her gold Versace chain-mail mini dress with a pair of matching thigh-high heeled boots, and of course, her larger-than-life feathered wings. The kind of woman I would follow all night to clear a path towards the food…
”Now she says she gon’ do what to who? Let’s find out and see…”
Cardi B did not come here to play. And she proved it to us. She walked her first Met Gala red carpet in a dramatic Moschino look. Her entire dress, gloves, choker, and headpiece were covered in beads and ornate jewels, not only that…. she’s sporting the best accessory of the night, her baby bump!
Like a prayer.
Known as the queen of controversy, Madonna was fully in her comfort zone. She knows how to stick to a theme. The pop queen chose a black dress of her fetish designer friend Jean Paul Gaultier and a mesh veil on her face. She also wore a cross-covered crown and black roses. Amen…
“There is an altar on my head.”
Sarah Jessica Parker was dressed from head to toe by Dolce & Gabbana, a fashion house that is overtly influenced by religion. Congratulations Jessica! The headpiece directly honors the theme.
Here are the highlights and Best Dressed Celebrities at the 75th annual Golden Globes last night in Los Angeles, hosted by Saturday Night Live‘s Seth Meyers.
At the first major public event since the recent Harvey Weinstein sexual misconduct allegations, A-list celebrities dressed all in black and wore Time’s Up pins to show their solidarity with the sexual assault victims in Hollywood and around the world, supporting the recent Time’s Up and #MeToo movements.
Spearheaded by powerhouses like Reese Witherspoon and Allison Janney, the mission behind Time’s Up is to abolish sexual harassment and the film industry’s systemic power imbalances resulting from long-standing gender equality issues.
Even though they wore black, each celebrity still showcased their own unique style, and many added bold red lipstick, a timelessly classic shade synonymous with female empowerment.
Here are our picks for Best Dressed Celebrities at the 2018 Golden Globe Awards:
HBO‘s series Big Little Lies ran away with many awards last night, including Best TV Movie or Limited Series, as well as wins for Best Actress, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress in a TV Movie, Series or Limited Series for Nicole Kidman, Alexander Skarsgård and Laura Dern respectively. The biggest win for us is Nicole Kidman’s effortlessly elegant Givenchy Couture dress and Fred Leighton jewelry.
Jessica Biel & Justin Timberlake
Justin took to Instagram before the ceremony to show his support for the movement and his wife Jessica, who was nominated for Best Actress for her role in The Sinner.
With Justin and Jessica both glammed up in Dior with Bvlgari jewelry, they’re definitely our top contenders for Best Dressed Couple!
Tracee Ellis Ross
A timeless fashion icon, Tracee evoked her mother Diana Ross‘s love for the head scarf and paired the silky black turban with a soft flowing long black halter dress, both by Marc Jacobs, finishing her look with pearly jewelry and signature red lips.
Elisabeth Moss celebrated her win for Best Actress in a TV Series (Drama) for The Handmaid’s Tale (which also won for best Drama TV Series). Her simple black Dior dress glimmered at the jewel-embellished collar, and she accessorized with simple jewelry and her lacy black pointy-toed pumps.
All Hail the Queen! The Crown‘s leading actress Claire Foy radiated regal style in clean lines, wearing a black Stella McCartney suit with clean lines, and punctuated with bold crimson lips.
The Best Actress nominee for her role in the series Insecure, Issa Rae won over fashionistas everywhere with her dramatic Prabal Gurung dress and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry – even if the most important thing she wore was her confidence!
Hot on the red carpet as a Best Actress nominee for her role in the highly touted series Glow, Alison Brie turned up the volume in a Zoulias dress, Christian Louboutin shoes and Bvlgari jewelry.
In a barely-there sheer black Valentino dress, Kate Hudson glammed up her short pixie haircut with luxurious Harry Winston jewels, Giuseppe Zanotti shoes and a Loriblu clutch.
Proving that the fountain of youth must exist, actress Isabelle Huppert looked agelessly glamorous in her eye-catching Chloé sequined evening dress, adding even more bling with diamond and emerald drop earrings from Chopard.
The 23 year-old winner for Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Comedy or Musical) for Lady Bird (which also won for Best Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical), Saoirse looked elegant beyond her years in a sophisticated Atelier Versace dress, Cartier jewelry and Christian Louboutin shoes.
